Hands-free car phone kits -change in law
February 9, 2007 |
Limousine Window Films now offer a full handsfree car phone kit service in order for you to drive safely and within the law. From February 27th the UK law regarding use of mobile phones in cars is changing as follows.
Under the new legislations, those who are not in proper control of their vehicle whilst using a mobile phone, even when using a hands free kit also face prosecution, the penalty for which can include a large fine, disqualification from driving and up to two years imprisonment.
The change in law reflects the ever-increasing press coverage of the dangers of using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle.
THINK! Tracking Research taken in 2003 shows that 90% of drivers say it should be illegal to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving. But surveys also show that more than 25% of drivers admit to doing it, research has shown that if you are using your mobile phone while driving you are four times more likely to have a crash.
The law applies to any persons driving a car, and states that while in control of the vehicle, it is illegal for them to pick up or use any type of phone that is, or must be, held to operate it.
This includes situations such as waiting for traffic lights, queuing in traffic and sending or receiving text messages or accessing data from the Internet or media providers.
Under this law, as an employer you are also responsible and can face prosecution if you require your drivers to answer the phone while in charge of a vehicle.
There are of course exceptions to this law, for instance if a driver is required to make an emergency 999 or 112 call and it is not safe to stop, they are permitted to do so.
